Hope Springs Eternal

I have been a Baltimore Orioles fan for most of my life. We have had our good times and our bad times. Lately the latter. I know now how my parents, grandparents and great aunts and uncles must have felt as residents and fans of the home team in Washington,D.C.
But today is the day when EVERYONE'S team is in first place.

Do You Have Prince Albert in a Can? (2008)

Well let him out!
Prank calls have come a long way since I was a kid.
I haven't laughed so hard since the last time I watched a city council meeting on Pac14.

"C'est La Vie", say the old folks-You Never Can Tell!

Hey, Critter

I'm still lookin', but it ain't one of these!

(nobody) ELSE BUT YOU

Whenever my daughter and her beau are in the area, I take them out to dinner. It has become my tradition. It was her maternal grandfather's tradition also and I am just carrying on the practice("your money is no good here", he would imply).
The other day I found this song at another blog and it reminded me of the "catch up talk" at one of our dinners.
They had seen this movie and had liked it.
At another dinner, the comment was made as to why the two of them "clicked" so well.
The answer:
NOBODY ( else but them) would be able to put up with either one of them. I think I got it right.

It's just a shot away,it's just a shot away! (pt.2)

I could not wait until tomorrow to post this blog entry that I alluded to in my last post.
I was in no hurry to tell the story of how I would steal a jigger of bourbon from my old man every so often and store it in an empty peanut butter jar. I would replace the exact amount of pilfered whiskey with water. I drank the stolen booze all at once and chased it with water. By the time I got to the Civic Center to hear the band Cherry Smash perform the cover of my favorite song by my favorite band, I was totally smashed. The Sheriff's Deputy called my parents and they came and got me. My Dad had only a slight buzz on at the time, as he was drinking watered down whiskey.

Enough of the minutia! I could not wait to hear this video again!!!!!!!

H.S.I.A.A.O.I (rating) For "Be Kind Rewind"(the movie)

Holy Shit It's Actually An Original Idea.

I never broke my mother's favorite vase and then tried to glue it back together so she would not notice, however I did open the end of a carton of cigarettes, took out a pack from the middle, opened up the bottom, took out one cigarette(using a sewing needle, mind you) and replaced and re-glued the entire package(s) to conceal the crime. All that for a Kent with a micronite(contained asbestos) filter.Stealing my father's bourbon was much easier, but that's a blog post for another day (maybe tomorrow, as the video is killa)!

If you have never seen this movie(like me), you might want to rent it(like I will!) as it has taken on a life of it's own. Google sweded and you will see what I am talking about.

Until then, here is what I'm talking about.

No Solicitation/ No solicitar

I came home today and my front door was UNLOCKED. I pulled out my GLOCK 26 and went room by room.Having "secured" the first floor, my next and most difficult task was ahead of me. Every police officer and "gamer" knows that the stairway is the most dangerous avenue to traverse when trying to "clear" a second story. Having been the chief programmer and technical advisor for a video game of twenty years ago(Cop Qwest), this was a piece of cake. The funny thing is that I was hoping to find an intruder hiding in a closet. Like they say: Shoot first and ask questions later!

Back to reality.

I do not own a gun, nor have I ever fired one. I don't even know how to operate a DVD player.I did solve the riddle of my UNLOCKED front door and it was laying on a chair in the front room. The pamphlet was titled: Would You Like to Know More About the Bible?
I guess I need to post a sign on my front door or my mother will open it to every Tom, Dick or Jesus.

Reflections (growin' old sucks)!

My brother requested this song the other day. I understand his thought process here. The same could apply to me.

A golf shot not tallied against the score, granted in informal play after a poor shot especially from the tee.

Yesterday was Easter and I felt that my post for the occasion should not be about chocolate bunnies or jelly beans, even though that is what I always looked forward to most on Easter Sunday.

As a kid, my family went to church every Sunday. My Dad broadcast the services on his radio station and my Mom was President of the Altar Guild. I was in the choir and I was an acolyte. I even portrayed a shepherd in a church Christmas pageant.

I have never been a religious person. I always felt that The Golden Rule (treat others as you would want to be treated) was enough. I believe in a higher power(God) and I believe that a man named Jesus did walk this earth. Was he the son of God? As an agnostic, I would have to say no.

If I had one wish for this earth, it's people and their respective religions, it would be: Give Peace A Chance.

I posted that song yesterday, but I want a do-over. I want to post the following song by Roy Buchanan, as it is the right thing to do!

Pre - Meet The Beatles

I was never a big fan of 1950's music, but I bet that I can find something that I like on youtube. Yeah right! Searching for something even remotely obscure on youtube is like looking for a pearl in an oyster. Let the madness begin.

Happy Birthday Bro

Today is my brother's birthday. I took him his groceries today and forgot to wish him A Happy Birthday! I will call him later today and do so. Last year, when I called him on this day, he muttered "Yeah, my last". Well it wasn't, but this year may be. He is not doing very well. He does not have a will, but I feel that his last wishes should be in writing. He does not possess many earthly goods, but I want to do right by him as I will be the one to "clear up all details". I will post one of his favorite songs that is appropriate for March 20, 2008.

It occurred to me the other day that this blog as of late sucks. I reread some posts that I wrote back in it's infancy and some of them were pretty damn good in my opinion. I have posted everything from A(llman brothers) to Z(z top) and most of my life story.
How the hell can I top it?
The answer is that I most likely can't!
But that is ok, because I am not alone.
A lot of "ventures" went downhill from the "git go"and if this blog is one of them, then it is in go company.
Take "The Andy Griffith Show" for example. It was great from the "git go", but when Barney left and it was colorized it sucked.

I asked my brother the same question that I will ask anyone reading this post.
What music artist or artists gave us their best work from the "git go"?
His initial answer was Travis Tritt and his debut album Country Club. His second answer was my first and only thought and the title of this post.

Tom Scholz masterminded this project in his spare time (and in his basement). The album sold over 15 million copies.Scholz put so much effort into making this album that he has managed only three further records in 22 years. It is one of my favorite albums of all time.Enjoy some BOSTON and comment on your pick for "First Ain't Worst".

The First Cut Is The Deepest

I know why my posts have gone downhill from day one. I have history in my corner to back me up and it ain't just me.I will write the post that explains it all in the next few days. Until then I will leave you with the songwriter that penned the title of my post(it wasn't Rod Stewart).

Subjective or Objective?

Which is correct ?
"Whom am I kidding?"
"Who am I kidding?"
"Who" sounds better; but if you turn the question around and say "I am kidding whom?"...then "whom" sounds better.
Who, Whom or Whoever?
I'm only kidding myself!

When I was a kid, I loved the following song.It was the first song that I played over and over and over again. And then the Beatles arrived in my house and this song was long forgotten.Well, today I remembered this song and the line that brought a tear to my eye all those years ago.

Vacation Almost Over...

Forty years ago today, the massacre at My Lai took place. I was in the 8th grade and was playing in a "Little League Basketball" game at the high school gymnasium. When I walked the two blocks home that evening, I heard the grim news.
My maternal grandmother, who had had a devastating stroke the year before, had passed away!
In 1968, Viet Nam was a million miles away. 40 years later, it still is. I did not have to worry about going there as I was only 13 years old at the time. Even though this "war" would not officially end until 1975, I felt very fortunate that I would not have to participate. My grades were good enough to get a college exemption and my draft number was 365.
I will be the first to admit that my generation could not hold a candle to my parent's generation. But they are the ones that spoiled us.
My big dilemma today is trying to figure out who did the original version of "In A Big Country". Does anyone know?

I like The Alarm better.
Here is a band from the 80's that is a lot closer to home.

High School Reunion

The shit you watch on TV when you are on vacation and you don't have to wake up the rooster. These kids on the TV Land Show that is titled the same as my post are just that:KIDS! They have not changed a bit.Give them 15 more years and maybe they will grow up! The cutest gal is Kat, but alas, she is a lesbian.
I have never attended a high school reunion since my graduation 35+ years ago. Why would I?
I felt like an outsider.
My family was not rich.
My parents should have bought that house on Park Drive.
I would have attended WiHi, where the gals gave you no static.
That's alright, because I had a car and I could drive across town!

Ronnie M. ( Edith's Kid )

In the summer of '65, Edith M., her husband and their 6 kids moved to my small hometown from the "mean streets" of a town in New Jersey. Ronnie was the new kid in my 6th grade class when school started in September. I don't know what elementary school was like in New Jersey, but if Ronnie's first week in the 6th grade in my hometown was any indication, well....let's just say that I am glad that I did not go there!
In his first week, Ronnie was caught smoking in the bathroom. He was busted for drawing on the bathroom wall (I believe he drew a turtle?). He called out another kid and beat him up after school. He felt the "business end" of the Principal's paddle at least once. All this in one week.
Ronnie calmed downed eventually. Actually, he was a pretty decent guy once you got to know him. I even went to his house one time for lunch. His mother was a real sweet lady. I noticed in the obits that she had passed away earlier in the week. That is what precipitated this 2 day/2 part post. All 6 of her kids survived her. Ron and his wife now live in Tennessee.
I have my own theory on why Ronnie acted the way he did during his first week in his new hometown. I call it the "Beaten Puppy" theory. I think that Ronnie, who was short and stout, was bullied in his old hometown and vowed that he would not let that happen again. He was gonna be the "bad ass" this time around. It was his defense mechanism.
In the summer of '65, Edith M. and her husband did the right thing for their kids by moving !

Thoughts of Mortality

It is highly possible that I will be given the task of burying both my mother and my brother before the year is done. I really don't want to go here, but the thought is on my mind every day. I have no choice as my mother is slowly losing her mind and my brother is slowly losing his body.I fear that I will lose both of them this year. My bigger fear is that I will somehow proceed them. This cannot happen as they have no one else to depend on. I will not let this happen! The songs that I will post is irrelevant to the thoughts that I have written. It is just another songwriter that my brother turned me on to!

I Ain't Crazy...I Just Love Rock 'n Roll

Or Do I ?

I Kid ,Because I Care.

From the local news rag blog:

I now have a candidate to vote for as my 1st Congressional District Representative come November. As a registered Republican, I have always backed the incumbent. A year and a half ago, I bit my lip and followed suit. I was never happy with the man's liberal leanings, but I never doubted his integrity.
I have always been a big fan of anonymity on the internet. There are some out there in the blogosphere that disagree; put your name on whatever you post, or you are not a man.
Well, here is the closest thing that I will reveal if anyone wants to know my identity(why would anyone care).
I am a direct descendant of George Mason (the author of the Bill of Rights of Virginia-not THE BILL OF RIGHTS that James Madison made famous, and in my opinion "lifted" from my progenitor).
In reality, I am a Libertarian. I will pay my fair share of taxes if they are FAIR. I do not want to subsidize anyone except the elderly, the disabled or the crazy( I did not type lazy).
Therefore, I will cast my vote for (Dr.) Richard J. Davis as my Representative in Congress from the 1st District. I think my ancestor would agree.
After all, Dr. Davis did state one of my favorite analogies:
INSANITY:"If we continue what we have been doing, we will continue to get the same results!"
Or better yet...
Could not find DOH! as youtube is out of control. However, here is the original.......

Exile on Main Street (just write you dumb ass)

I have started and stopped more posts in the last week than I have since last August. Advice to self: Just write you dumb ass!
I just got done reading the Daily Times and now it is my turn to comment.
As a member of the "Lower Shore Dry Well Club", my advice to the lady with the "yellish" water is to contact a water conditioning company that will remove the iron from your water. When I moved into my house over 16 years ago, all my "whites" turned "yellish" within a few launderings. However, I did not blame it on anyone and I purchased an Ecowater system that is still working to this day.
I tip my hat (if I ever wore one) to that SU student that is circulating a petition to recall the mare and 2/5th's of the city council. To those that think that college students in a college town are an annoyance and that the majority are only there to "party hardy"as Doug M. used to say, I must disagree. My child is a student at this university and she is there for two reasons: To get a "free degree" and to get the hell out of town(I think?).
The daughter of a friend of mine was the high scorer(10 pts.) for Mardela Springs in a losing effort to the possible state champion Pocomoke Girls Basketball team. Kudos to Tayler Siggers who is only a freshman.
And to Tim, thanks for the "jump start", as my battery was dead!

This ones for me....... as I'm on a roll!!!!!!!

I'm Back...But I'm on the Bubble !

If I was an NCAA team with my record, especially during the last month,I would not put any money on my team to make the tourney.I am the 65th seed! If I can win one game, then I can continue. The odds are stacked against me because my team is not very good.I will either be a loser or I will bring this back from the ashes.
I don't like my chances, but I like these two songs.

I need a vacation! I need a break! I need a Spring Break, so to speak. I will be taking a well deserved "holiday" from posting on this blog. I basically have run out of words and ideas to post here, as is evident in the last few days. After all, it is all about the music. I will leave with the following tune, which I feel is appropriate.

What a Circus !

We don't need any more clowns, now do we?

Two Blogs in One !

My brother don't need no internet connection to post his musical requests. I have all the room necessary to fulfill both our needs!
